THE LOCATION

North of the town of Spencer, Massachusetts, at the crest of a steeply sloping hill blanketed in oak, maple and pine, but bared in part by farmed meadows and broad pasturelands, rests Saint Joseph's Abbey, a cloistered Roman Catholic monastery of monks of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance, popularly known as Trappists. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX THE WORKSHOP

Nationally known painter and instructor Charlotte Wharton will help participants interpret the rhythms of nature and further their own voice. Charlotte will include and go beyond the standard elements of design to cover the interpretation of the inherent energy of linear directives, shape, value, color, using the Language of Artistic Energy and the Munsell Color System. Additionally, this workshop will cover the atmospheric principles of light wavelengths and spectrum colors; the two major light sources and their effects seen in Nature; and painting various weather conditions. The workshop content is based on the concepts and practices contained in Charlotte's book "The Language Of Energy In Art: Finding Your Vision".

After the initial lecture, individual daily critique and instruction will occur at the easel. A group critique will follow the end of the class. Artists of all levels working in oils, watercolor, acrylics, and pastels will gain inspiration from the breathtaking views and extraordinary light quality at this location.
